classic dancehall fuckery… who remembers the Buju song ‘Gal me serious me haffi get you tonight/Haffi get your body even by gunpoint’… I havn’t heard the song but the only reason it’s getting any attention is because it’s a hit, with ‘undesirable’ ghetto ppl no less and probably with the uptowners trying to be ‘cool’. The person who made it is clearly ignorant, that being said ignorance is one of the foundations of the ghetto mentality that birthed dancehall…
I do recall predicting that the kind of gross extreme lyrics that took hold over the past 5-6 years because of the Gully/Gaza thing and the introduction of more liberal hip-hop lyrics (re sex and drugs) would eventually lead us to music like this… When hot head worship (NOT the neighborhood watch mentality of yore) and fuck songs makes up the majority of underground dancehall what did ppl expect? It’s like dancehall’s own OFWGKTGIFOMGWTFLMAO ya heard… and the only other option is ‘badmind’ and get drunk/ball so hard songs…
Like I said after Sting 2011, dancehall is pretty much whack nowadays… Reggae artists on dancehall riddims is still cool though… And thankfully there’s still people like Capleton and Sizzla who’ve managed to keep their noses clean and are still burning the fire on the fuckery and the industry. Mi nuh deal with island pop but I know they keep it clean for the most part, this is probably why it is viewed as the only way up and out…
